Passport Seva (India) photo upload requirements

Passport Seva's official ICAO photo guideline is precise about the image itself: a colour photograph of 630 × 810 pixels on a white background, with the face filling 80–85% of the frame, the full head visible from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, and no computer alterations.

What we could not verify is the upload screen's own file-size and format limit. The portal is a JavaScript application and its limits are not published on any official page we could read, so this page does not state a KB figure — confirm it on the upload screen before you save. The same goes for the optional signature image.

Because the guideline forbids computer alterations, the checker below only checks: it confirms the 630 × 810 pixel size and does not resize, crop or re-encode. It cannot judge the face coverage, background or lighting rules, and it does not decide whether Passport Seva will accept the photo. Note that photos are also captured on site at the PSK/POPSK, and the paper booklet still specifies a 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm print.

Check your photo

The tool below is set to the official digital limits. Drop your photo in to check it against each requirement — nothing is uploaded or altered.

Check-only. The official guideline states the 630 × 810 pixel size and forbids computer alterations, so this page confirms the dimensions and nothing else. No file-size or format rule is applied because none could be verified from an official page.

Head size and position, background, lighting, expression, and colour profile — the tool cannot judge these.

Signature (optional)

The Passport Seva portal accepts an optional signature image. No official specification for it could be verified, so this page states none.

Specification
Not published on a readable official page — follow the limits shown on the upload screen

If the portal states a KB or pixel limit on screen, the generic form photo checker lets you enter those values yourself.

Compliance note. This checks the 630 × 810 pixel dimensions only. It does not verify file size or format (unpublished), and it does not judge face coverage, background, lighting, expression, or whether Passport Seva will accept your photo.

Step by step

  • Photograph against a white background

From about 1.5 metres, head centred and not tilted, natural expression with mouth closed, eyes open, glasses removed, even lighting with no shadows.

  • Size to 630 × 810 pixels with the face at 80–85%

Have the photographer supply the file at the guideline size. The guideline forbids computer alterations, so do not edit it yourself.

  • Check the dimensions below, then confirm limits in the portal

The checker confirms 630 × 810 px. Read the file-size and format limit on the Passport Seva upload screen before you save.

Private by design. Any photo you check here is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded. ExactPic is not affiliated with Ministry of External Affairs (Passport Seva), Government of India and does not guarantee acceptance — always follow the official guidance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the photo size for Passport Seva online?
The official ICAO photo guideline says a colour photograph of 630 × 810 pixels on a white background, with the face taking up 80–85% of the frame. The upload screen's file-size limit is not published on a readable official page — confirm it in the portal.
How many KB should the Passport Seva photo be?
We could not verify a KB limit from an official Passport Seva page, so this page does not state one. Third-party sites quote figures, but treat the limit shown on the upload screen as the rule.
Can I edit my photo to fit Passport Seva's requirements?
The guideline says no computer alterations. Ask the photographer for a correctly framed 630 × 810 pixel file rather than cropping or retouching it yourself. This page only checks the dimensions.
