India e-Visa photo and passport-page upload requirements

The Indian e-Visa application asks for two files: a digital photograph and a scan of your passport's bio page. The photo must be a JPEG between 10 KB and 1 MB whose height and width are equal — the official page states no pixel range, only that the image must be square.

The most common problem is a phone photo that is neither square nor small enough: cameras save 3:4 or 9:16 frames of several megabytes. Because the e-Visa instructions give no pixel size and do not forbid cropping, the checker below is set to fix mode — it crops your photo to a square without stretching it and compresses it to fit under 1 MB.

Do not confuse this with the regular (sticker) visa photo upload on the same domain, which is 10–300 KB and 350×350 to 1000×1000 pixels — see our separate page. ExactPic checks file size, dimensions, aspect ratio and format only; it cannot judge your face, background or whether the application will be accepted.

Check and fix your photo

The tool below is set to the official digital limits. Drop your photo in to check it and download a version that fits.

The e-Visa page gives no pixel dimensions, so the checker verifies the JPEG format, the 10 KB–1 MB range and the square shape. Fix mode centre-crops to 1:1 — check your whole head is still inside the frame afterwards — and compresses only as far as needed to get under 1 MB.

Head size and position, background, lighting, expression, and colour profile — the tool cannot judge these.

Passport bio page

The second upload is a scan of the passport page that carries your photograph and personal details. It must be a PDF, so the image checker on this page does not apply to it.

File format
PDF
File size
Minimum 10 KB, maximum 300 KB
Content
Scanned bio page showing your photograph and details
Passport validity
At least six months when applying

ExactPic's PDF tools can convert a photo of the page to PDF and recompress the images inside it, showing the size before and after — there is no target-size setting, so check that the result lands between 10 KB and 300 KB. The checker above is for the JPEG photo only.

Compress a PDF

Compliance note. This checks the e-Visa photo's format, file-size range and square shape only. It does not judge head position, expression, lighting, background, or whether the Bureau of Immigration will accept your photo.

Save the page with your photo and details as a PDF between 10 KB and 300 KB, then upload both files in the official e-Visa form.
