RRB NTPC signature upload and live photo requirements (CEN 06/2025)

From the CEN 2025 notifications onward, the Railway Recruitment Boards capture the candidate's photograph live during the online application on rrbapply.gov.in, as SSC does. The official FAQ for CEN 06/2025 (NTPC Graduate) says you are not required to upload a pre-existing photograph: the live photo is taken with a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone, you can preview and retake it until submission, and a non-compliant photo may lead to rejection. Do not wear a cap, mask or glasses while it is captured, use a plain background, and wear non-white — preferably dark — clothing for contrast.

The signature is still uploaded as a file. The FAQ (Q60) asks for JPG/JPEG between 30 KB and 49 KB, at a minimum resolution of 100 DPI and minimum dimensions of 140 pixels wide by 60 pixels high, positioned within the form's scan box of 35 mm wide by 20 mm high. The 30–70 KB, 3.5 × 3.5 cm photo-upload rule quoted by many sites belongs to the earlier file-upload era and is obsolete.

The checker below covers the signature only: it verifies the JPEG format, the 30–49 KB band and the 140 × 60 pixel minimum, and can compress a larger scan to fit. Mind the 30 KB floor — the tool never pads a small file, so scan at a resolution that produces a JPEG above 30 KB. It cannot check DPI, the scan-box placement, or whether the RRB will accept the upload, and there is nothing to check for the live photo.

Live photo capture — nothing to upload

This portal photographs you inside the application with a webcam or phone camera, so there is no photo file to check and no photo checker on this page. What you control is the setup before you press capture — the rules in the table above. The file you do upload is covered below.

Check and fix your signature

The one file you upload. The FAQ gives a file-size band with an unusually high floor, a minimum pixel size and a physical scan box.

File format
JPG/JPEG
File size
30 KB to 49 KB
Minimum dimensions
140 pixels (width) × 60 pixels (height)
Minimum resolution
100 DPI
Scan box
35 mm (width) × 20 mm (height) — the scanned signature must be positioned within it

Auto-checked and fixable
File size, pixel dimensions, and file format.
You must verify yourself
Legibility, ink colour, orientation, how much of the frame the content fills, and the paper background — the tool cannot judge these.

Verifies JPG/JPEG, the 30–49 KB band and the 140 × 60 px minimum; fix mode compresses a larger scan under 49 KB and reports, without padding, if the result falls below 30 KB. Scan the signature large enough — a few hundred pixels wide, which for a 35 mm box means scanning at about 200–300 DPI rather than the 100 DPI minimum — so the JPEG lands inside the band. DPI and the scan-box placement cannot be checked here.

Compliance note. This checks mechanical file requirements only — file size, pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and format. It does not check face coverage, background, ink colour, legibility, the number of signatures, or whether the examination or recruitment portal will accept your upload.

Step by step

  • Sign inside a 35 mm × 20 mm box

Draw or print the box on white paper, sign within it, and scan well above the 100 DPI minimum — at 100 DPI a 35 mm box is only about 138 pixels wide, under the 140 × 60 pixel floor, and the JPEG will not reach 30 KB. 200–300 DPI gives roughly 280–410 pixels of width.

  • Check and fix the signature below

Confirm JPG/JPEG, 30–49 KB and the pixel minimum. If the file is under 30 KB, rescan at a higher resolution rather than padding it.

  • Prepare for the live photo

Webcam or phone front camera, plain background, non-white and preferably dark clothing, no cap, mask or glasses. Preview and retake until you are satisfied — it cannot be changed after submission.

Frequently asked questions

What is the signature size for RRB NTPC?
The official FAQ for CEN 06/2025 asks for a JPG/JPEG between 30 KB and 49 KB, at a minimum resolution of 100 DPI and minimum dimensions of 140 × 60 pixels, positioned within a scan box of 35 mm × 20 mm.
Do I need to upload a photo for the RRB application?
No. From CEN 2025 the RRB application captures a live photo with a webcam or your phone's front camera. Do not wear a cap, mask or glasses, use a plain background, and wear non-white, preferably dark, clothing. You can preview and retake until submission.
Is the RRB photo size 30 to 70 KB?
Not any more. The 30–70 KB, 3.5 × 3.5 cm photo-upload rule belongs to earlier notifications. The CEN 06/2025 FAQ describes a live photo capture instead, and only the signature (30–49 KB) is uploaded as a file.
