WebP — up to 100 megapixels and 20,000px on a side
Camera metadata is not carried over: EXIF and XMP — capture date, camera model and any GPS tag — are left behind when the picture is redrawn as PNG. The pixels are all that moves across.
Transparency itself is preserved exactly, and so is everything you can see. The colour stored underneath transparent pixels is not: the browser blends it into the transparency as it reads the file. That only matters if you plan to edit the PNG later and raise the transparency to uncover those pixels — for that, keep the original WebP as well.
When to pick PNG over JPG
Choose PNG when you need a lossless-looking graphic, transparency, or a format the portal lists explicitly. For ordinary photos headed to a small KB limit, WebP to JPG is usually smaller.
More context: WebP not accepted — convert to JPG or PNG.
How to convert WebP to PNG
Drop your WebP file(s) above, convert, and download PNG. Alpha channels are preserved when the source has transparency. Batch conversion downloads a ZIP. Processing stays on your device.
PNG files are often larger than JPG for photographs. If the portal only cares about format and has a tight KB cap, convert to JPG instead, then compress to the stated limit.
Frequently asked questions
- When should I use PNG instead of WebP?
- Use PNG when software, forms, or older systems require a traditional raster format — especially if the image needs transparency or sharp text/edges.
- Will PNG keep transparency from WebP?
- Yes when the source WebP has an alpha channel. JPG cannot store transparency; choose this converter instead of WebP to JPG for logos and cutouts.
- Is PNG larger than JPG?
- Often yes for photographs. Prefer JPG for headshots and form photos with a KB cap; use PNG for graphics, screenshots, or when the form explicitly requires PNG.
- Does the PNG keep EXIF and colour profile data?
- No. The conversion redraws the picture from its pixels, so EXIF, XMP and any embedded ICC colour profile are left behind. Capture date, camera model and GPS tags do not reach the PNG. If you need that information, keep the original WebP alongside the converted file.
- Are files uploaded to ExactPic?
- No. Conversion runs in your browser. Your images never leave your device.
